I was just browsing around through my past posts and I noticed that I was yammering about getting a new job.

It didn’t happen. I’m still at my old cashier job. And it’s not such a bad thing. Let me explain.

First of all, I really did look around for a new work place. I’m still getting e-mails from Workopolis and such places that send me updates on new positions needing to be filled. The thing is that Read more

So now I’m looking for a new bricks and mortar job. I guess I’m just tired of the one I have now. The thing is, I dread going in – a good sign to move on, right? On those days I just don’t want to get out of bed! And so, I’m dusting off my resume and I’m going to pass it out and see who bites.

I’ll let you know when I find a decent job, and in the mean time, I found a new obsession – BitCoins.

Of course, I’m new to this e-currency world, Read more

And so now I officially enter the second week of freedom from working full time. I’ve just been enjoying my extra free time and doing minimal work online as a result. But now, back to work for me. I am starting with this post.

My schedule at the grocery store has been a consistent 22 and 1/2 hours per week, and so I can work more on my first love, which is writing. I’m not the best or most talented, certainly. My grammar is terrible. But I have 100% heart and desire, so I know I will succeed to some degree. Besides, with the way things are these days, what with the internet Read more

I haven’t made a post in a long time.

I’ve been Reeeaaaaaallly busy working… like I said …the grocery store would make me work more after the so called ‘promotion’ To me promotion is just another word for bitch.

I have been working 40 hours per week at the customer service. I complained a little bit and then put in a notice that I would only be available for 3 days per week.

Consequently, my hours went down to 30 hours per week and I have 2 whole days off – after being subjected to being there 6 days per week. It’s like a mini vacation. WOW.

I do have a voice!

Anyhow, I really did put in notice Read more

Finally…a Promotion?

So it finally happened. A promotion was forced upon me. I am now an official Customer Service Representative at the grocery store I work at. I’m not too thrilled about it. Let me add some back ground information so that you can understand why.

First of all, I’ve been a cashier there for eight years. Every single other cashier that was there when I started has either quit or been promoted. That store has gone through about three or four completely new sets of cashier workers since then. In other words, I am the longest running cashier that the store has probably ever known.

I only stick around there for several reasons. Read more

Sick or Sick of Work?

I think I have a bit of both – I’m sick and sick of work. I called in absent today and I gotta tell you, I feel reaaaallly guiiiiiiilty. I hate doing it, but it is what it is.

Why didn’t I go to work today? ¬†Mostly because my arm is aching. As you may know, I’m a cashier at a grocery store and I work 5 days /30 hours per week. I started in 2005 to the present and have developed several conditions as a result of the repetitive nature of the job: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Bursitis in my right shoulder. On top of that my elbow is starting to do funny things and I think it might be tennis elbow or whatever it’s called. ¬†Once in awhile it gets unbearable enough that I need an extra day off to let it rest and heal. Let’s Ban “How are You”

Let’s ban the social ritual of asking every stranger we come into contact with, “How are you?”

It’s inane. It doesn’t mean anything. Do you really truly care how the clerk at the pet store or the hostess at the steakhouse is doing? Don’t you just really want him/her to ring up your stuff, bring you to your table or show you where the light bulbs are and then continue on with your own business?

People who know me or read my blog know that I work part time online and part time at a grocery store. I have been a cashier going on nine years. Sigh. It’s not my favorite part of the day, but it keeps a roof over my head and dinner on the table. I appreciate that I’m not unemployed. I’m grateful that I am able bodied and clear of mind enough to get up every morning and go to work and I don’t want to complain about it, but… (but I’m going to anyway…) Read more
